ANESTHESIA

For anxious patients, various methods of sedation and general anesthesia can be used for the patient’s comfort during surgery. This varies from oral conscious sedation, nitrous oxide, a combination of oral sedation and intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. Drs. Hall, Sy and Hui will go over the choices and help you choose what you are most comfortable with. Your safety is our number one priority.

Anesthesia Options

Intravenous Sedation

This method is commonly used to alleviate anxiety. This entails the placement of an IV and the purpose is to put you in the first couple stages of sleep that allows for a pleasant, safe and smooth surgery. Our expert doctors are all fully trained in anesthesia and you will be closely monitored throughout your procedure.

Oral Sedation/Nitrous Oxide

This method is termed anxiolysis because it will not "put you to sleep" but rather it is designed to alleviate some of the stress of the procedure. If deemed appropriate, you will be instructed on how to take the oral sedation tablets prior to your surgery. During surgery, nitrous oxide will be placed over your nose to allow further relief of the anxiety.

General Anesthesia

For patients who are extremely anxious, pediatric or medically complex, we can offer general anesthesia. A medical anesthesiologist with over 20 years of experience will be able to assist us in making sure your procedure is done safely and comfortably. We are also conveniently located in a medical-dental facility with a fully accredited surgery center downstairs for any cases we need to take to the operating room under full general anesthesia.
